This unit explores the factors that contribute to the health of a population and describes how informatics and health IT are applied to assessing and improving the health of geographic communities.

What you will learn

Objectives:

1. Describe the framework’s relevance to the concept of population health at the community level.

2. Examine other types of factors, such as social factors and non-medical factors, and discuss how they impact health and wellness.

3. Compare and contrast traditional public health perspectives with that of the newer, and at times controversial, population health perspective.

4. Summarize the potential for health information technology to improve the health of populations at the community and geographic levels.
